With roughly 20% of the U.S. population living in rural areas, accessing affordable and nutritious food is a challenge for many communities.

In an effort to close this gap, Dollar General has responded to many community requests across the country, opening several new stores in the last few years.

In addition to the new stores, DG has also added fresh produce and expanded product offerings to existing stores, helping meet the needs of these communities and their residents.

  • Earle, Ark.: Recently, Earle held a grand opening for its first DG Market store after a request from 19-year-old Mayor Jaylen Smith as part of his work to provide fresh produce and more grocery options for his community.
  • Grover Hill, Ohio: In January 2024, Grover Hill celebrated its first new building since 1978: a brand-new DG Market that opened in response to a community request from the town featuring fresh produce, meat and dairy products and more.
  • Hitchcock, Texas: Dollar General worked with Hitchcock Mayor Chris Armacost to bring fresh produce to his community.
